Knobs

TONE (RAMP)

Think of it as a brightness dial for the wobbly effect sound. Turn it up for a clear, sparkling shimmer; turn it down for a warm, cloudy, vintage feel. It leaves your clean tone alone. If you've told the pedal to slowly sweep a parameter (ramping), this same knob controls how fast that sweep happens instead.

tip: Play with TONE and MIX together when dialing in chorus — the manual notes they interact heavily and small moves make a big difference to the chorus character.

By default, a tone control for the wet (vibrato) side of the signal only; it does not affect the dry signal. Fully clockwise is bright and transparent, fully counter-clockwise is dark and murky. When a ramp parameter is assigned via the rear dip switches, this knob instead sets how long the ramp (rise or fall) takes.

VOLUME

Overall loudness knob for the effect. Because there's a built-in boost, you have plenty of extra volume available — push it hard for a slightly dirty, amp-like grit. It uses hi-fi-grade parts, so it can even work like a clean volume pedal if controlled by an expression pedal.

tip: Assign VOLUME to an expression pedal or the ramp function and you effectively get a volume pedal or, if you modulate it, a tremolo effect.

Sets the output level of the effect. There's an internal voltage doubler and a JFET boost, providing significant boost and headroom on tap; pushed hard the JFET adds amp-like distortion.

MIX

This decides whether you hear pitch wobble alone (fully wet), your clean tone alone (fully dry), or a blend. Blending the two in the middle is exactly what makes chorus. Fully clockwise gives you pure vibrato with no dry signal.

tip: For classic chorus, park it in the middle and tweak TONE to taste; for true 'pitch only' vibrato, go fully wet.

Blends between 100% dry (clean) and 100% wet (vibrato) signal. Middle settings produce chorus.

RPM

The speed of the wobble — low for slow, seasick drifting, high for fast fluttering. Tapping the tap footswitch overrides whatever this knob says.

tip: Use tap tempo (with the tap-control dip switch in the 'P' position) to lock the wobble speed to your song's tempo.

Controls the rate (speed) of the vibrato. Can be overridden by the Tap Stomp tempo.

DEPTH

How dramatic the wobble is. Just a touch gives gentle, subtle movement; cranked all the way gives wild, exaggerated pitch bends. This model swings wider and crazier than the original.

tip: When using an expression pedal for direct 'whammy'-style waveform control, set DEPTH fully clockwise for the maximum pitch sweep.

Controls how wide the pitch modulation swings. Fully clockwise gives extreme, pitch-bending modulation; mkII has a wider range than mkI.

WARP

Changes the 'lopsidedness' of the wobble. At noon the pitch rises and falls evenly. Turn one way and it snaps up then drifts down; turn the other and it drifts up then snaps down. It shapes the feel and rhythm of the wobble.

tip: Part of the ModuShape engine — combine off-center WARP settings with the two wave-shape toggles for unusual, sputtering or lopsided modulation textures.

Controls the symmetry (center point) of the modulation waveform. Fully counter-clockwise: fast rise, slow fall. Fully clockwise: slow rise, fast fall. At 12 o'clock the wave is perfectly symmetric.

Switches & toggles

Left Wave Shape Toggle

Controls the character of the 'up' portion of each wobble cycle. Sine is smooth and rounded, triangle is a steady even glide, square makes the pitch jump abruptly. This is one third of the ModuShape system.

tip: Mix a square first half with a sine second half for a distinctive asymmetric warble you can't get from a normal vibrato pedal.

Sets the shape of the first half of the modulation waveform: left = sine, middle = triangle, right = square.

Right Wave Shape Toggle

Controls the character of the 'down' portion of each wobble cycle. Same shape options as the left toggle but for the back half of the cycle. Together with the left toggle and WARP, it gives you total control over the shape of your wobble.

tip: Set both toggles to middle (triangle) for the most natural, classic vibrato/chorus feel.

Sets the shape of the second half of the modulation waveform: left = square, middle = triangle, right = sine.

1 – 2 – 4 (3 – 6 – 8) Toggle

When you use tap tempo, this decides how the tapped beat translates into wobble speed — one wobble per beat, two per beat, and so on. A switch on the back lets you swap in a second set of note divisions.

tip: For MIDI clock sync, this toggle also picks which note value equals one wobble cycle (whole, half, quarter, or dotted-eighth/eighth/sixteenth).

Selects the tap-tempo division. Normally gives 1 (whole), 2 (half), 4 (quarter) subdivisions; a rear dip switch unlocks the 3–6–8 set (dotted eighth, eighth, sixteenth). Applies to RPM or to ramping depending on the tap-control dip switch. Ramp divisions run 2x slower.

Lower Toggle (Preset switch)

A quick two-preset switcher. Flick left or right to instantly load a saved sound; keep it in the middle to just use whatever the knobs are set to right now. To store a sound, hold one footswitch for 3 seconds then both footswitches for another 3 seconds until the light blinks. If you tweak a knob after loading a preset, the light dims to remind you the change isn't saved.

tip: To save to the RIGHT slot hold the right (Bypass) stomp first; for the LEFT slot hold the left (Tap) stomp first. Save order matters.

Recalls presets. Right position recalls one preset (slot 1), left recalls another (slot 2), middle reflects the live knob/toggle/dip settings. Saving: hold the corresponding stomp 3 seconds, then hold both stomps 3 seconds until the LED blinks. Moving a knob after recall dims the LED to show unsaved changes.

Footswitches

Bypass Stomp

The main on/off footswitch (right side). Because it's true bypass, your clean tone is completely unaffected when it's off. There's an option on the back to make it 'hold-to-activate' so the effect only sounds while your foot is pressing down.

tip: Re-engaging the pedal always resets any ramp back to its start — handy for retriggering a slow sweep at the top of a phrase.

Turns the effect on or off. True bypass via a relay and very quiet. Can be set to momentary (only on while held) via the MoToByp rear dip switch. Also used in preset-save and MIDI channel-set procedures.

Tap Stomp

Tap this footswitch (left side) in time with your song and the wobble speed locks to your tempo. It listens to your two most recent taps, so you can correct on the fly.

tip: Whether tap sets the wobble speed or the ramp speed depends on the Tap Control dip switch on the back (P = RPM, R = ramp).

Sets tap tempo; always honors the last two taps. Also used together with Bypass in preset-saving and MIDI setup.

Side panels

Switches & toggles

Volume / Mix / RPM / Depth / Warp — Left dip bank

These five little switches choose WHICH knobs the pedal will automatically sweep (ramp) or let your expression pedal control. Flip one on and that parameter becomes 'movable'; you can select several at once.

tip: Assign RPM here with Tap Control set to R and Bounce on to make the vibrato speed sweep rhythmically — or assign Volume to turn the ramp into a tremolo.

Each switch turns that parameter on or off for ramping (or for expression/CV control if an expression pedal is plugged in). These are the parameters shown in red in the manual.

Volume / Mix / RPM / Depth / Warp — Right dip bank (rise/fall)

These decide the DIRECTION of the automatic sweep for each parameter you turned on — does the value climb up or drop down over the ramp time?

tip: Combine with the Sweep dip switch to define exactly where the sweep starts and ends.

For each parameter, sets whether it rises (moves clockwise) or falls (moves counter-clockwise) during ramping, and how it behaves with an expression pedal.

Bounce

Decides whether a swept parameter keeps oscillating (on) or just glides once to its destination and stays there (off).

tip: Bounce must be ON if you want a parameter to ramp back and forth repeatedly rather than doing a one-shot sweep.

When on (and no expression pedal connected), ramped parameters move back and forth continuously (modulate). When off, they ramp once and hold.

Lo-Fi

A grit-and-grime switch. Turn it on for a murkier, thicker, more warped and lo-fi character — leaning into the melted-record vibe.

tip: Great for the extreme 'damaged tape/vinyl' sounds the pedal is named after.

Increases the delay time on the vibrato circuit, with additional side effects; generally makes the sound noisier and 'goo-ier.'

MoToByp (Momentary-to-bypass)

Turns the on/off footswitch into a hold-to-play switch — the effect sounds only while your foot presses it, and turns off the moment you let go.

tip: Use it for quick, stab-style bursts of extreme vibrato during a phrase.

When on, the pedal is only active while the Bypass Stomp is physically held down.

Tap Control (R / P)

Chooses whether tapping your foot sets the wobble speed (P) or sets how fast a ramped parameter sweeps (R).

tip: Set it to R (plus Bounce on) to tap in the rhythm of a slow filter-like sweep instead of the vibrato speed.

Sets what tap tempo controls: P = Parameter (RPM/vibrato rate), R = Ramp rate.

Tap Division (1 / 3)

Switches which set of subdivisions the front-panel division toggle offers — the normal whole/half/quarter group, or the dotted-eighth/eighth/sixteenth group.

tip: Also affects MIDI clock sync note choices, so set it before syncing to a DAW or drum machine.

In position '3' it unlocks the 3, 6, 8 tap divisions (and matching MIDI note divisions) instead of the standard 1, 2, 4 set.

Sweep (T / B)

Defines the endpoint of a swept parameter. Top means the sweep runs from where the knob sits up to maximum; bottom means it runs from the knob position down to minimum. The knob position sets one end, this switch sets which direction the other end lies.

tip: To dial in an expression-pedal volume range from silent to unity gain, set Sweep to B and put the Volume knob at unity — nudge the knob up for more range.

Sets where a ramp or expression sweep travels. 'T' (top): between the current knob position and fully clockwise (max). 'B' (bottom): between the current knob position and fully counter-clockwise (min).

1/4" mono output. Output impedance is less than 1k ohm.

EXP / CV

Plug in an expression pedal here (Mission EP-1 or EP-25k recommended) to sweep parameters with your foot in real time. If no parameters are selected on the back, you get direct foot control of the pitch — an analog 'whammy' effect. It can also take a control-voltage signal from a synth or sequencer.

tip: For maximum whammy range with nothing dip-selected, set DEPTH fully clockwise. To set the sweep range for a chosen parameter, use the 'sweep' dip switch plus the knob position.

1/4" TRS jack for an expression pedal (parameter chosen via rear dip switches; tip goes to wiper). Also accepts 0–5V control voltage on the tip with the ring left floating. Plugging anything in automatically switches the left dip bank from ramping to expression/CV control.

TAP / MIDI

A do-double-duty jack: use it to send/receive tap tempo between pedals, or to add MIDI control via a Midibox so you can recall presets, control every knob, and sync tempo from a MIDI device.

tip: Default MIDI channel is 5. To change it, hold both footswitches while powering up, then send a Program Change from your desired channel — the pedal locks to it permanently until changed again.

1/4" TRS jack. Works as a tap-tempo in/out with a regular 1/4" cable, or connects to a Chase Bliss-modified Empress Midibox for full MIDI (a standard Empress box needs a tip/ring-flipped cable).

9V DC Power Input

Where power goes. Use a normal Boss-style 9V negative-center supply. It sips very little current, so almost any pedal power supply will run it.

Accepts a standard 2.1mm center-negative 9V DC adapter or a 9V alkaline battery. Consumes ~25mA. Voodoo Labs Pedal Power recommended.
