What it is
A desktop/Eurorack recreation of the Sequential Pro-600/Prophet-600, a classic 8-voice analog polyphonic synthesizer with 2 VCOs, VCF, arpeggiator, sequencer and 400 program memories.
The Behringer PRO-800 is a compact analog polyphonic synthesizer that packs eight voices into a small Eurorack-format box. It's a faithful recreation of the classic Sequential Prophet-600 engine — two analog oscillators per voice built around the famous 3340 chip, a warm analog low-pass filter, two envelopes, an LFO, and the powerful Poly-Mod modulation section. It has no keyboard of its own; you play it from a MIDI keyboard, a computer over USB, or its built-in arpeggiator and sequencer. Because it stays fully analog through the signal path, it delivers the thick, slightly imperfect, living tone that made early polysynths famous — lush pads, fat brass, biting leads, and gnarly modulated textures.
First session: get a sound out of it
- 01Plug the included power adapter into the rear DC jack. Connect the rear OUTPUT (1/4") to your mixer or audio interface, or plug headphones into the PHONES jack.
- 02Connect a MIDI keyboard to the rear MIDI IN with a 5-pin DIN cable, or connect the rear USB-B port to your computer (no drivers needed — it's class-compliant).
- 03Power on. The PRO-800 automatically tunes itself; the tune light illuminates and the display shows oscillator info. Wait for it to finish before playing.
- 04Set the MIDI channel so it matches your keyboard or DAW track (via the global settings menu) so notes come through.
- 05Turn up the VOLUME knob and play some notes to confirm you're getting sound.

How the sound flows
Each of the eight voices starts with two oscillators (OSC A and OSC B) that generate the raw tone, plus a noise source. These are blended in the MIXER, where you set how much of OSC A, OSC B (and noise) reach the next stage. The mixed sound flows into the analog low-pass FILTER, which removes high frequencies to shape brightness, with resonance for extra emphasis. From there it hits the amplifier (VCA), whose volume over time is shaped by the AMPLIFIER envelope. Meanwhile two modulation sources — the LFO and the POLY-MOD section — can wobble the pitch, pulse width, and filter for movement and drama. The finished sound leaves through the rear OUTPUT jack (to a mixer or interface) or the PHONES jack for headphones. MIDI and USB carry note and control data in.
Questions owners actually ask
Why isn't my synth making any sound when I play the keyboard?+
Most often it's a MIDI channel mismatch. Open the GLOBAL settings menu and set the MIDI Rx channel to match your keyboard (or set it to All). Also confirm the keyboard is connected to MIDI IN (or USB), the OUTPUT is connected to your mixer, and the VOLUME is turned up. If a preset seems unresponsive, press PERF to enter manual mode.
Do I need to install drivers to use it with my computer?+
No. The PRO-800 is a USB class-compliant MIDI device, so it works with Windows and macOS with no driver installation. Just connect the rear USB-B port to your computer. Remember USB carries MIDI only — audio still comes from the OUTPUT jack.
Why does the tune light come on and what is auto-tune?+
Because the oscillators are fully analog, they drift with temperature. On power-up the PRO-800 automatically calibrates its oscillators — the tune light glows during this. Let it finish before playing. If pitch drifts after warming up, re-run the tuning routine for accurate intervals.
How do I get the classic screaming Prophet sounds?+
Use the POLY-MOD section. Route the FILTER ENV or OSC B as a modulation source and select destinations like FREQ A, PW A, or FILTER. Combining Poly-Mod with OSC SYNC and high FILTER RESONANCE produces the aggressive, metallic, evolving tones the original was famous for.
How do I save my own sounds?+
Edit the sound with the front-panel knobs, then press WRITE and choose a memory location using BANK and PRESET. The PRO-800 has 400 program memories. Save to an unwanted slot so you don't overwrite factory presets you may want later.
What's the difference between preset mode and manual mode?+
In preset (program) mode the synth plays a stored patch, and the physical knob positions may not match what you hear. Pressing PERF switches to manual mode, where the front-panel controls directly produce the live sound. Use manual mode when you want hands-on, immediate control.
Can I use it in a Eurorack case?+
Yes. The PRO-800 can be removed from its factory chassis and fitted into a standard Eurorack case (not supplied). Behringer recommends this be done only by an experienced service technician to avoid injury or damaging the unit, and you must follow proper power connection guidance.
